Canning Peaches

lovely
SO back in September 2008 I made a Honey Do List with a list of crafts I'd like to learn. Well i am proud to say today I knocked another one off my list! CANNING !!!
boiling to get the skins off
It was actually not as hard as I thought it would be. I was having nightmares of the lids not sealing and having a horrible death caused by botulism....
Chopped peaches for preserves
But it wasn't so! Each "PING" of the lids sealing made us all so excited. It was pretty funny. Throughout the day we would cheer after each " Ping"... The sign of success !
They look so pretty
We made Peach Jam, Canned peaches and Peach Salsa from Putting Up MMMMM MMMM I think that was everyones favorite!
mango salsa

What do you enjoy canning? I cant wait to make blackberry Strawberry jam!! Might have to take a little road trip up to the west coast and pick wild berries!!!

I am so gonna make peach salsa! (to eat, not to can....) My favorite thing to can is apricot butter - it is super yummy. I've also done cherry freezer jam that was the best. Soon, I'll be canning apple butter for the first time as the apple tree along the drive way is bursting with apples.

Good job on the peach canning - looks perfect!

We had an incredible fruit season in Central Texas this year. I'd never made jelly before (did pickles last year for the first time). Started in June with early plums, then so many peaches that all limbs on all trees broke, then grapes (wine AND jelly), more plums, wild plums. It's past mid September, and I'm still trying to finish wild plum jam. May never want to see fruit again. Check my blog at www.rusticramblings.wordpress.com for stories and pictures ---everything from fashion to art, canning, running barbed wire fence --- to pets. LOTS of pics from the fruit adventures!!!

Canning peach anything sounds divine! I've done strawberries & watermelon pickles...but never peaches! Congrats on crossing another thing off the craft to do list! That always feels so good!

After looking through your blog, I believe you are like my long lost sister from another mister. You are too dang cute! And so crafty! I love your hair accessories that you make. I might need to head over to your etsy shop and spend a little money.

P.S. I have a "little man" also. His name is Hugo and he's a Boston Terrier. :)

This is so fun. I know exactly what you mean by waiting for the jars to pop. I make plum and peach jelly and jam. I can tomatoes and use them all through out the year. Its a wonderful feeling to use what you grow.
